shopping local is generally a win win for everyone, well maybe not the supermarkets but i dont trust them anyway, im not saying i don't ever shop at a supermarket just mainly for uncommon items you may not find locally.

there is a reason why i say i don't really trust supermarkets or you could probably take it further and blame the big dogs. I've never been one to go and buy ready meals, one i cant say they taste all that great, two I've known how to cook from a young age, and i do see it as lazy otherwise, fair enough people have busy lives but there's ways and means to make homemade nutritious meals without spending forever in the kitchen.

anyway i often wondered why we so many people that have health issues and are obese, also having a few family members go through cancer it got me thinking about foods and the amount of sh*t that goes into products, which at the time was quite funny as I had also come across a documentary on netflix about supermarket food which basically support my ideals and so in my head we are purposely being poisoned and being made unhealthy and why we have such a high demand on our health system which in turn the pharmaceutical companies are benefitting.

think about it, the healthy things in the supermarkets are more expensive, there are millions of options for everything you want and if you look at the labels they are high in salt and sugars as well as a list of chemicals we have never even heard of to preserve them, even the raw meats are pumped with chemicals and water. im not saying I'm the healthiest of people i have my downfalls mainly cheese and bread, plus veggies come with its own issues like the use of pesticides etc.

okay rant over, lets get back on topic and look at the benefits of shopping local

Benefit 1: healthier

shopping at your local market food is going to be fresher, you know there's going to be very little in terms of chemicals and toxins in your food because you have got it fresh.

benefit 2: not travelled as far

The produce hasn't travelled as far so less diseases and bad bacteria on them, not only that it hasn't been shipped overseas and so has a lower carbon footprint which is better for the environment.

benefit 3: better for business

you are putting into the local economy and supporting independent business that make up your community instead of making big corporations richer. local businesses create local jobs and opportunities, which eventually if there were more local businesses then people wouldn't need to travel as far to find work or to buy the things they need.

benefit 4: cheaper

shopping at your local market can be cheaper, you get more for your money, you can choose the amount you want so you save on wastage, also there often more deals and there's the opportunity to barter.

Benefit 5: options and inspiration.

if you go to the market you still have an a abundance of food and lots of differnet options especially as the seasons change so does the type of fruits and veggies you can find, which can be quite inspirational and you can become more creative in the kitchen, plus shopping for seasonal produce is better for the environment aswell.
